You go on vacation to Ibiza and suddenly it starts to rain. You panic because you think your vacation is ruined and you will not be able to enjoy the wonderful island. Although it doesn’t usually rain too much when it does it can spoil the established plan you had. But there is no reason to worry. Ibiza is much more than a place for summer, beach and sun, on the island you can make a lot of plans that do not require sun and good weather. Here we leave you a variety of things to do and places to visit to take shelter from the rain. Write it all down, grab your umbrella and get ready to immerse yourself in Ibiza.
- Visit museums
In Ibiza there is a good variety of interesting museums that you can visit on a rainy day. When you visit a museum you always learn something new about history, art, nature; you learn about the past, the present and the future, as well as the successes and mistakes of mankind. That is why it is important that when you go to a place you don’t know you visit some of its museums to learn about the history of the place. Some of the museums you can visit are the Museum of Contemporary Art of Eivissa, the Puget Museum or the Museum-Necropolis of Puig des Molins, among others.
- Shopping
Who doesn’t like to buy something and give free rein to the credit card? This plan is perfect to get out of the rain and visit the beautiful stores that the island has. Some of the ideal places to shop are Vara de Rey, El Puerto and La Marina in Ibiza town. You can buy something for yourself or take a souvenir for a loved one, but we are sure you will find something you love.
- Taste the typical gastronomy
One of the best ways to get to know a place is through its typical food. Undoubtedly, tasting the typical dishes of a place is one of the best things about traveling. Through food you can learn more about its traditions, culture and history. If you go to Ibiza you have to try the star dish of Ibizan gastronomy: bullit de peix. This typical dish is based on a stew composed mostly of fish and accompanied by potato. It is usual to eat it with rice a banda and even with a little alioli to give more flavor to the fish. We recommend the restaurant Port de Balansat in Puerto de San Miguel (San Juan), one of the most famous restaurants to eat bullit de peix.
- Take a guided visit to a wine cellar
Since the 8th century B.C. the influence of the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans generated an important wine tradition on the island. The autochthonous varieties are Monasterillo and Garnacha in reds, while in whites the Malvasía variety stands out. Ibizan wines are elaborated and produced in the areas of Sant Mateu, Buscastell and Sant Josep. There are high quality wineries where we can enjoy the island wine, an exquisite, quality and unique wine. Some of the main ones that we recommend you to visit are Can Maymó, Can Rich, Ibizkus or Sa Cova, among many others.
- Going to the cinema or theater
Undoubtedly one of the most popular plans in the world to be safe from the rain is to go to the cinema or theater. It is also a very good plan to enjoy the culture. Of course, in Ibiza you can also do these two plans. In the capital you will find the Can Ventosa hall, a cultural space where you can enjoy music, theater, folkloric exhibitions, dance, projections… On the other hand, in San Antonio you have the Regio cinemas, one of the most emblematic cinemas of the island that maintains the essence of the old projection rooms with great care and whose offer is varied and includes original versions.
- Enjoy a good party
If there is something that everyone thinks of when they mention Ibiza, it is its nightlife. It has the biggest and most awarded discotheques in the world. Since the nightclubs do not start to be animated until 1 or 2 in the morning, the most usual thing is to begin the night in the bars and pubs of the different zones of Ibiza like for example the Port of Ibiza, Playa d’en Bossa or San Antonio. And when you want to get into the party as such, you have to visit the three best clubs on the island: Pacha Ibiza, Amnesia Ibiza and Ushuaia Beach Hotel. Finish the day in style and with a good rhythm, despite the rain.
And if luckily it has stopped raining, you can also see the best sunsets in the world. The rain cleans the atmosphere of suspended particles and allows you to see beautiful sunsets. On many occasions, the sky is so clear that it is easy to make out the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula from many of Ibiza’s beaches.
