The most charming squares of Ibiza

4 February, 2019

This time, it has been very difficult for us to make a selection, since Ibiza is full of wonderful places with squares and dreamlike spots. Every summer the island welcomes thousands of tourists from different parts of the world who want to enjoy its charm, its beaches and emblematic clubs among other things. However, Ibiza is more than just a party, there are many places to discover. That’s why we want to highlight 4 charming squares that you can not miss.

Plaza del Sol, Ibiza

Without a doubt, we are in the greatest cultural attraction of the island and one of the essential places that everyone who visits Ibiza must get lost in. Between its walls it is possible to see the footprint left by the different civilizations that have passed through the island. The unmistakable silhouette of Dalt Vila, crowned by the Cathedral of Ibiza, is one of the symbols of the island.

Within Dalt Vila, next to the wall is this picturesque and lively square full of trees and terraces by candlelight under its branches. It breathes a chic and bohemian atmosphere in a unique environment, on the edge of the rampart with beautiful views of the port of Ibiza and the sound of the musicians playing in the square.

Plaza de la Iglesia, Santa Gertrudis

Santa Gertrudis is a village formed by white houses and a typical Mediterranean environment and offers an original look created by artists and sculptors who, in love with the place, have contributed to its peculiar beauty.

At its epicenter, the square in front of the church, you will find different and varied restaurants together surrounding the imposing white church of the town, the most typical is the Bar Costa, it is the largest bar in Santa Gertrudis and probably the most famous. Well, nice and cheap… What more could you ask for? The Bar Costa stands out for its decoration, all the rooms in this bar are covered with the most outlandish paintings, many of them are said to be paying for some hippie artists. The Costa bar only serves sandwiches, but how good they are! Although the bar occupies a large area, you may have to wait a bit to find a table.

Plaza España, San Juan

This square does not have an especially beautiful architecture, but on Sundays with the market it gets totally transformed and becomes a magical place full of life with the authentic hippie atmosphere of the north of the island.

In the middle of the square and throughout the whole village, food produced in the surroundings, beverages, ecological bath items, clothing and accessories, etc., are sold. There is also live music from 12 noon (as soon as the mass ends at the church opposite). You can take a break and have a coffee at the idyllic courtyard of the Giri Café.

Plaza de la Catedral, Ibiza

Located in the upper part of Ibiza and considered one of the most beautiful in the city, there we will have the opportunity to contemplate the Cathedral of Ibiza, the main monument of the city, the Mirador de Sant Jaume, the Archaeological Museum, located in the building that occupied before the University, and the House of the Curia. In addition, it is a highly recommended tourist spot since it is home to one of the main tourist offices in Ibiza.

Needless to say, since we are in this square we have to visit the Ibicencan cathedral, built in the 14th century on the old mosque of the city. Of course, its current appearance dates mainly from the eighteenth century, since two centuries before the works had to stop. All this was due to the fact that it had to adapt to the Renaissance walls that, at that very moment, were rising to defend the city.
